Devices and systems for quantum communication - Quantum networks
Quantum communications is the study of generating, encoding, detecting and transmitting quantum information in modern telecommunication infrastructure. This area emerged as a result of interdisciplinary works in quantum optics, photonics, information theory and optical communications. Today quantum communications have come a long way from several insightful ideas to operating regional quantum networks. Quantum network technologies allow for exchanging data between distributed quantum computing devices, as well as offer outstanding possibilities for providing security in optical networks. Research in this field is not limited to the communication aspect only, and includes a wide spectrum of devices and systems that will be forming the new infrastructure and provide it with the necessary instrumentation, such as quantum repeaters, light sources and detectors, random number generators and quantum computing elements. A combination of these technologies will open unique possibilities in data exchange and processing, altering the landscape of contemporary telecommunications.
